Introduction
Back in 2016, I worked in a Musical box museum which located at the same venue while also running a Museum Café. Until last year, due to the relocation of the museum, we decided to take over the café and workshop activities. Our venue is located at 168 Telok Ayer street, a historic building. In the past, Le Shan She was established by the Hokkien merchants in 1881 with Chong Wen Ge as a base. The society's main objective was to preach the "scared edicts". Apart of this, the activities of the Le Shan She were funded by donations from Hokkien merchants. The Hokkien Lam Ann contractor Lim Chee Aik (Lim Loh) also sponsored a clinic in the Chong Wen Ge to provide free medical services, as part of the Le Shan She's activities. I wish to carry on the significance of this place and make everyone who visits feel a sense of warmth.
Let us tell you
Le Shan Café
Le Shan Café, located in the historic 168 Telok Ayer building, has been operating since 2016. Originally part of a museum and music space, we transitioned to focus on blending culture, art, and community. Inspired by the site’s legacy of free education and healthcare by Hokkien merchants, our mission is to create a warm and meaningful space for all. We host exhibitions, workshops, and fundraisers, while promoting handmade products with a personal touch. Our vision is to inspire creativity, support charitable causes, and build connections across generations, making a lasting impact on our community.
